Legacy From The
Past, Legacy For The Future I think its great when you can put a name to something, because when you give it a name, you can attach an image to it. A phrase I learnt quite recently is "urban explorer", and there are some very good website devoted to this very subject. I take my hat off to those guys who go to all those places where we mere mortals are not allowed to go, and then sharing their experiences with us all, at the same time keeping a record of our Legacy. Do have a look at some of these sites they are well worth a visit. I grew up in the late 50's and early 60's when they were redeveloping Birmingham, my parents first house was still on part of a construction site, for me it was a dream lifestyle, playing on real diggers, going down excavations, drains and the thunder boxes. Later on there was major redevelopment of the city centre, the number of times I was chased of the roofs of 5 story derelict factories or off Gat St basin which was out of bound to the public then. Nechells power station and gas works was like a magnet to me, I would stay out all day from dawn to dust exploring, my mother must have been worried sick some days. in the 70's I bought an instamatic camera to record some of my
explorations, it was a waste of time, so I gat a cheep 35mm camera,
which was another waste of time, the rest is a long story. |
| The Site This site was started in 2005, two years after my interest in photography was re-kindled with the digital age, when at last we have the technology and quality to produce a decent image, and to get that image into a format that reflects that way I want to remember it. I am not a computer techie, but some one who appreciates technology, and is about to put that technology to good use. it is interesting that with all the technology we have, we are still losing most of our history, and out biggest loss is in the area of out social history. I know my great grandfather came form Shropshire and he was an entrepreneur, who had a sand pit, then a rubbish dump, then rented the site to the Romany families. I know he had about 15 children, of which two died in the Great War and one represented Britain at the 1932 Olympic games as a boxer. Yet I do not have one single picture of my great Grandfather Herbert Pardoe, and because of that I feel that I have lost a great chunk of social history. We must remember our heritage, because its our past, both good or bad that makes us what we are today - our Legacy |

| About Me My nickname is Morturn from the game quake ll, my real name is no big secret and is not too difficult to work out About me, well that a long story! I am a 51 your old semi retired freelance consultant. I work mainly in the construction industry as its the business I understand best where I spend my time turning poor performing maintenance companies round. I also have an interest in NLP, because it does work both for the individual and in the work I do as a freelance consultant. I did not do well at school, my mind on the more interesting things in life like when they burnt the small pox hospital down, and I think part of it was a bit to do with the way I was taught. At primary school I was known for disappearing half way through the day, when I found something more interesting to do. My senior school was a typical failing secondary modern school, where as kids we learnt all about bullying, from the teachers who provided some first class hands on work. I am dyslexic, and love it! |
