| To see the demise off the steam train on our railway system was sad day, because steam loco's had that certain something: they were warm, they smell nice and the foot plate of a steam loco was not out of bounds to all. Drivers and firemen would always invite you up, if you showed an interest, and I have had many a cup of tea off the fireman on a footplate. People did not mine you wondering round the loco yard, i remember Tysley sheds with half a dozen or so locos parked up round the turntable. |
