| I have no intention of teaching anyone visiting this gallery
anything about steam trains, it's all been done before, and I am not
going to do pretty picture of trains, because they have already been
taken too. what I want here is to capture some of the atmosphere
that we all remember as kids, when we would run up the foot bridge
to get a whiff of that steamy, smoky, oily smell of the steam
locomotive, along with that special low pitch rumble of 100 tons of
solid metal which almost lived and breathed. Of course steam locos
did not just run by themselves, they needed an army of highly
skilled people to keep them running, so I have included some
workshop photos as a way of saying thanks to all those volunteers
who freely give up their weekends to keep these marvels of
engineering on the rails for us to enjoy a Legacy form the past. |
